The Cannes Festival (French: Festival de Cannes), named until 2002 as the International Film Festival (Festival international du film) and known in English as the Cannes Film Festival, is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from around the world.
The 69th Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 11 and will run until May 22. So far, the fashion at this year’s festival has not been disappointing.
Just to show you how much street-style and being your own individual is influencing and empowering even the stars, Chanel ambassador and style icon Kristen Stewart brought her eclectic taste to the Cannes, as she wore sneakers, t-shirts and her overall badass aesthetic, as well as her thoughts on the festival’s antiquated (and sexist) red-carpet “rules” in which heels are rumored to be required by women.
This is what she said:
Things have to change immediately. It has become really obvious that if [a man and I] were walking the red carpet together and someone stopped me and said, ‘Excuse me, young lady, you’re not wearing heels. You cannot come in.’ Then [I’m going to say], ‘Neither is my friend. Does he have to wear heels?’ It can work both ways. It’s just like you simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version—flats or heels.”
Way to go Kristen!
Of course, Stewart wasn’t the only one turning heads at this star studded event.
Blake Lively showed some skin proudly in her Atelier Versace. Naomi Watts was a stunner in Michael Kors Collection. And George Clooney and his wife Amal wore Atelier Versace.
I can’t wait to see the rest of the fashion worn at the event. I love to see everyone dressed to the nine with their individual style and personality. Another event that proves we are head in the direction of being individuals instead of followers.
